Home Matters: Lifespan Friendly Homes, Neighborhoods and Communities that Support Aging in Place

This workshop will follow up on last year’s design workshop to delve even deeper – exploring the financial, policy, and decision-making obstacles that have traditionally gotten in the way of making our homes and communities truly lifespan friendly – great places to grow up and grow old.  Click here to view the design guidebook that resulted from the first workshop.This workshop is designed to bring together professionals whose work intersects with older adults including: local government staff, elected officials, in-home caregivers, architects, social workers, homebuilders, physical therapists, developers, assisted living administrators, realtors, as well as members of the public with an interest in aging issues.Workshop Agenda Topics include:

  • Regional trends on aging
  • Emerging consumer demand for lifespan friendly design features
  • Best practices for extending independent living
  • Local government policies that drive housing options and choice
  • Decision-making challenges faced by older adults and their families and how individuals, families, neighborhoods, and whole communities can lay the groundwork for successful aging
  • Resources and incentives that can help developers integrate lifespan friendly design elements with limited financial risk
